U.S. Army Specialized training Program at the State University of Iowa was created in 1942 to fulfill wartime requirements for soldiers and junior officers with technical skills. The program's purpose was to \"provide the Army with a continuous and accelerated supply of specialists and technicians of high rank.\".

Iowa was one of many American universities to have participated in the program. It ended in 1944, just before the invasion of France by the Allies. After the program was closed, ASTP soldiers were re-assigned to the Army infantry. They fought in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. These men were part of the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program, which was held at the State University of Iowa. They also lost their lives during service.
