London is pronounced /'lnd@n/. It is located in Canada, in the southwestern part of Ontario. According to the 2021 Canadian census, the city had 422,324 inhabitants. London lies at the confluence with the Thames River. It is approximately 200km (120 mi) away from Toronto and Detroit, and around 230km (140 mi) away from Buffalo, New York. Although London is a separate political entity from Middlesex County it still serves as the county seat.

John Graves Simcoe named London and the Thames in 1793. Simcoe proposed the location for Upper Canada's capital. Peter Hagerman was the first European settler between 1801-1804. [7] The first European settlement was established in 1826. It was incorporated in 1855. London, Canada's 11th-largest metropolitan area and the largest municipality in southwestern Ontario, has been growing since then. It has annexed many smaller communities.

London is a regional center for healthcare and education. It's home to the University of Western Ontario, Fanshawe College and three major hospitals, Victoria Hospital, University Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital. While the city hosts many musical and artistic events and festivals that contribute to its tourism industry and its economy, its main focus is on education, manufacturing, financial service, and information technology. London's hospitals and university are two of the top ten employers. London is located at the intersection of highways 402 and 401, connecting it to Toronto and Windsor. These highways make it easy to cross the border with the United States at Detroit-Windsor and Port Huron-Sarnia. There is also an international airport, bus stops and train stations in the city.
