Tarmstedt - Wikipedia

Tarmstedt is a municipality in the district of Rotenburg in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 25 km northwest of Rotenburg, and 25 km northeast of Bremen.

Tarmstedt was part of the Prince-Archbishopric, Bremen, founded in 1180. The Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen was transformed into the Duchy in 1648. It was then ruled in personal union first by the Swedish Crown, but was interrupted by a Danish occupation (1712-1715), and then by the Hanoverian crown from 1715. The Duchy was annexed by the ephemeral Kingdom in Westphalia in 1807. This happened before France annexed it. The Duchy was re-established to the Electorate in Hanover in 1813. This, after it had been upgraded to the Kingdom in Hanover in 1814, incorporated the Duchy into a real union. Tarmstedt and the Ducal territory became part of the Stade Region in 1823.

Tarmstedt also serves as the seat for the Samtgemeinde (\"collective municipality\") Tarmstedt.
