Notable people[edit]. External links[edit].

Doswell, a unincorporated community in Hanover County, is located in the Central Region of U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. It was originally called Hanover Junction and was situated on the Virginia Central Railroad (later part of the C&O), at a crossing with the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. This is a north-south route. CSX Transportation now owns both railroads, but the former Virginia Central line is leased by Buckingham Branch Railroad, a short-line carrier. Railfans love to watch trains from the Doswell station.

In honor of Major Thomas Doswell (1823-1890), the name was changed from Doswell to Doswell in 1890s. [1] James Doswell was the first Doswell to arrive in the area. He was a captain during the American Revolution.

Doswell was once a predominantly farmland area. Many residents commute to Richmond from Doswell.

Doswell is home to Kings Dominion, an amusement park owned by Cedar Fair. Meadow Event Park, which hosts the Virginia State Fair, and Meadow Dominion are also nearby. The National Register of Historic Places lists several historical sites in the vicinity, including Sharp's Oakland and Church Quarter. [2]
