Prairieville, Louisiana. Phillips Farm[edit]. Notable people[edit].

Prairieville, Louisiana, United States, is a census-designated area in Ascension Parish. It is located south of Baton Rouge, and north of Gonzales.

Prairieville is a growing suburb of Baton Rouge. Its name derives from the once abundant prairies and pastures visible from Highway 73 (Jefferson Hwy.). Airline Highway, now covered by development. Prairieville was a small community that had few residents when it first opened.

In recent decades, Prairieville has benefited from migration out of Baton Rouge, with new residents particularly drawn to the area by its high-performing public schools and low crime rate. Prairieville had a 2020 census population of 33,197 inhabitants.[2] If it was incorporated it would be the largest city in Ascension Parish. Prairieville is in one of the fastest-growing areas in Louisiana. Prairieville's population is bigger than the parish's two largest incorporated cities, Donaldsonville (6,695) and Gonzales (12,231) combined.

Because it is close to the coast of south Louisiana, Prairieville can be vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes. The Prairieville area was severely damaged by Hurricane Gustav. Many trees were felled and power lines were cut for several weeks.

Phillips Farm was the most prominent local property. Although the original owner passed away in 2005, the farmhouse remains a landmark in Prairieville. The grounds are surrounded by live oaks, and a white-planked fence. At the beginning of suburban development, the pasture was sold. A 250-resident subdivision called \"Seven Oaks\", surrounds the farm.
