Tyler is the capital of the U.S. State of Texas, and also the county seat for Smith County. It is also the biggest city in Northeast Texas. Tyler, Texas was 33rd in Texas in terms of population in 2020. It was 299th in the United States. It is the capital city of the Greater Tyler Metropolitan statistical area. This is the 198th largest metropolitan area in the United States and 16th in Texas, after Waco and College Station-Bryan. In 2020, it had a population of 233,479 people. [6]

The city is named for John Tyler, the tenth President of the United States. In 1985, the international Adopt-a-Highway movement began in Tyler. After appeals from local Texas Department of Transportation officials, the local Civitan International chapter adopted a two-mile (three kilometer) stretch of U.S. Route 69 to maintain. Drivers and other motorists traveling on this segment of U.S. 69 (between Tyler and nearby Lindale) will see brown road signs that read, "First Adopt-A-Highway in the World".

Tyler is also known as the \"Rose Capital of America\", or the \"Rose City\", and the \"Rose Capital of the World 7\". This nickname was earned through a long history of rose cultivation, production and processing. The 14-acre public rose garden is the largest in America. It has at least 38,000 rosebushes and more than 500 varieties. [8] The annual Texas Rose Festival is held at the Tyler Rose Garden. It attracts thousands each October. [8]
