Nagpur, pronunciation: [na.gpu:r]), is the third-largest city in India and the winter capital for the Indian state Maharashtra. It is the 14th-largest city in India in terms of population [18]. According to an Oxford's Economics report Nagpur will be the fifth most growing city worldwide between 2019 and 2035, with an average growth rate of 8.41%. It was proposed to be one of the Smart Cities of Maharashtra. [20][21][22]

According to the Union Ministry of Urban Development's latest ranking of 100 smart cities in India, Nagpur ranked first in Maharashtra and second in India. Nagpur, also known as \"Orange City\", has been declared the safest, greenest and most technologically advanced city in Maharashtra state. [23]

Nagpur hosts the Maharashtra state assembly's annual winter session. It is the Vidarbha region's major political and commercial center. [citation needed]

The city is also a key location for the Dalit Buddhist movement as well as the headquarters of the Hindu organization RSS. Nagpur is also famous for its Deekshabhoomi, a large hollow stupa that is rated an A-class tourist and pilgrimage site. Within the city is also located the Bombay High Court regional branch.
