Zurich (see below), is the capital and largest city of Switzerland. It is located at the northern tip of Lake Zurich in north-central Switzerland. The municipality is home to 434,335 people, with a population of 1.315 million in 2009,[6] and a metropolitan area of 1.83 million (2011). [7] Zurich has a lot to offer in terms of roads, railways and air traffic. The country's busiest airports are Zurich Airport (and Zurich's main railway station).

The Romans founded Zurich, which has been settled continuously for more than 2,000 years. They called it Turicum. Although early settlements can be traced back to more than 6,400 year ago, this does not prove that the town was established. [8] In the Middle Ages, Zurich was granted the independent and privileged status imperial immediacy. It became, in 1519 under the leadership Huldrych Zwingli, the primary centre for the Protestant Reformation in Europe. [9]

Zurich's official language is German. [a] However, Zurich German is the main spoken language. Zurich German is the local dialect of Alemannic Swiss German.

There are many museums and galleries in the city, including Kunsthaus and the Swiss National Museum. Schauspielhaus Zurich is one of the most significant theatres in Germany. [10]
