We are delighted to invite you, on behalf of the French Phycological Society and the Federation of European Phycological Societies Council to Brest for the 8th European Phycological Congress 'Scientific Opportunities for a Global Algal Revolution'. This will take place in Britany (France) after Zagreb. France has a proud history of phycological science and a diverse algal flora. Brittany has a rich seaweed diversity of 700 species, and historically has developed a flourishing industry for macroalgae that is still the leader in Europe. The region is also home to important research institutes dedicated microalgae and oceanography.
In 1996, the European Phycological Congress began in Cologne in Germany. Since then, it has continued to bring together phycologists around the globe every four years. The main goal of this conference is to provide an open forum for the discussion of recent scientific, technological and social developments in phycological science. EPC8 will include plenary sessions, a series symposia, which are grouped by six themes, as well as contributed papers and poster presentations covering topics like algal diversity and ecology, genomics and cell biology, and the societal perception of Algae. Each symposium will, whenever possible, address microalgae and macroalgae originating from marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems. The EPC8 will be held in Brest, France on August 20, 2023.
